Join Our NED Board
We are currently actively recruiting for
a volunteer Non-Executive Director (NED).
Following the departure of Diana Tickell, there is one vacancy on the board of Outvertising Limited for a volunteer Non-Executive Director (NED).
We particularly welcome applications from people of colour, people with disabilities, Trans+
people, and women, who are currently underrepresented on boards and in senior leadership
roles.
Outvertising is UK marketing and advertising’s LGBTQIA+ advocacy organisation. Our Non-
Executive Directors provide independent governance, strategic oversight and ethical
guidance.
Our mission is to drive LGBTQIA+ representation and inclusion in UK advertising and
marketing — externally, by ensuring that LGBTQIA+ people are visibly and authentically
represented in communications; and internally, by championing creative workplaces where
all queer and Trans+ colleagues can thrive.
Established in 2019, Outvertising is run entirely by volunteers and has grown significantly in
scale, reach and influence. Engagement with our work is broader than ever across both
adland and the LGBTQIA+ sector, and our activities continue to expand. Strong and
effective governance is therefore essential. The NED role is unpaid.
The role
NEDs are expected, as a minimum, to:
Attend four evening statutory board meetings each year
Act as ambassadors for Outvertising, amplifying and advocating for our work
Participate in at least one Outvertising event annually
Provide ad hoc advice and support as required
NEDs may also be invited to offer informal mentoring to members of the management team,
shadow a workstream, or lead a specific project.
The total time commitment is approximately 30 hours per year. Each NED appointment is for
a three-year term, subject to our rules of engagement.
About you
As an Outvertising NED, you will already be living and actively promoting our values of
inclusion, equity and fairness. You will identify as LGBTQIA+ yourself, or be an active ally to
the queer community.
We are seeking senior or C-suite professionals with some or all of the following:
Current or previous experience in advertising and marketing
Proven strategic skills and experience
Knowledge of the not-for-profit and/or DEI sector
Governance and responsibilities
Outvertising is a company limited by guarantee without share capital. NEDs support the
organisation in a manner similar to charity trustees.
Your fiduciary duties, as defined by the Companies Act 2006, include exercising
independent judgement, reasonable care, skill and diligence, and avoiding conflicts of
interest. NEDs are responsible for approving the annual budget, report and accounts, and for
providing ongoing strategic and ethical guidance.
One of Outvertising’s aims is to help LGBTQIA+ people gain valuable experience to support
career progression in marketing and advertising. In that spirit, we welcome applications from
individuals without prior NED experience, although an understanding of governance will be
beneficial.
How to apply
If you are interested in helping ensure UK marketing and advertising plays its role in creating
a more inclusive and fair society, please send your CV and a covering letter explaining why
you would like to become an Outvertising NED.
